On November 7, 2019, the NATO Association of Canada hosted its first annual NATO Beer Festival. Prior to the event, the NAOC held a survey to find Canada’s ‘best’ beer. Five breweries were involved with promoting the survey and their own beer, including Quidi Vidi; Great Lakes Brewery; Beau’s Brewery; Good Robot Brewing; and Big Spruce Brewery. The winner of the survey, Quidi Vidi Iceberg, was chosen to represent Canadian beer at the NAOC Beer Festival. NATO member country Consulates also participated and brought their own respective beers.
At the Beer Festival, NATO Association directors and members were joined by NATO Consuls General and Ontario Members of Provincial Parliament. Ivan Pocuch, Consul General of the Czech Republic, and Gertrude Kearns, Canadian War Artist and Member of the Order of Canada, spoke about the value of security in maintaining our cultural flourishing.
The evening included beer taste testing, networking and a competition awarding the best beer in NATO, smoothest beer in NATO, and the strongest beer in NATO. The winners were as followed:
- Best Beer in NATO – Portugal
- Smoothest Beer in NATO – Canada
- Strongest Beer in NATO – Greece
